I designed, built and installed this “Mackie Chandelier” for Mathew Fox’s Techno Cosmic Mass done in the round at Historic Sweets Ballroom in downtown Oakland. This array utilizing five Mackie SRM450 loudspeakers worked well to keep the sound source closer to your ear hence they could be played with less volume and more detail. It was also easier to look to the center of the room because this is where the sound was coming from, not from a speaker behind your head. I was very happy with the way this worked for this event.
I did use speakers on the perimeter of the circle for dance fill and sound FX. The subs were under the center stage (not shown in picture) and required some time delay to get it to sound just right.
